What you are actually hiring

A guided day with us is one guide, assigned to your party and nobody else, for a fixed block of time. The two standard blocks are four hours and eight hours. You can add a private car with a driver, or you can travel the way you already planned: taxi, Grab, a car you hired yourself, or on foot in Duong Dong. The guide does not drive. When a car is part of the booking, the driver handles the road and the guide handles you.

The guide holds a Vietnamese tour guide card. Under the 2017 Law on Tourism there are three kinds: international, domestic and on-site. For foreign visitors on an inbound trip, the card that matters is the international one, which also requires fluency in the language the guide registered. Phu Quoc has been a special zone (dac khu) of An Giang province since 1 July 2025. Distances are short by Vietnamese standards, but the roads between the west coast, the east coast and the north are where the time goes. A guide who plans the order of stops around opening hours, heat and light is worth more here than one who simply knows the names of things.

All four are priced on request, because the number depends on your date, how many of you there are and whether you want the car. The pricing page lists what moves the price and shows the few published market figures we could find for comparable services.

What a guide does, and what a guide does not do

Does: plans the order of stops so you reach the prison before its midday break and the market before the heat; explains history, religion, food and daily life at each stop; translates at stalls, pagodas and restaurants; keeps the day on time and tells you honestly when a stop is not worth it.
Does: carries the guide card and, as the law requires of international and domestic guides, the assignment document from the company and the day's programme in Vietnamese.
Does not: drive you, ride a scooter with you as a pillion passenger, or captain or crew a boat.
Does not: take you into shops that pay commission. Shopping stops happen only when you ask for them.
Does not: act as an interpreter for medical, police or legal matters. The guide will help you find the right place and call us, but formal interpreting needs a qualified person.

Costs that sit outside the guide fee

A quote from us names the guide fee and, if you chose it, the car. Some costs are always separate, and it is better to know them before the day than to meet them at a ticket window:

Entry tickets where they exist. Many stops on our routes are free, including Phu Quoc Prison and Ho Quoc Pagoda. Suoi Tranh stream charges about VND 30,000 per adult and Suoi Da Ban about VND 10,000 – 20,000 (published prices, 2025 – 2026; confirm before travel).
Your own lunch, drinks and anything you buy. We include the guide's and the driver's lunch in the quote, so you never have to work out who pays for whom.
Extra time. If the day runs past the booked hours because you want to stay, the overtime rate written on your quote applies per started half hour.
Tips. They are not expected and not included.

Who we are not a good fit for

Travellers looking for a seat on a shared bus tour with other guests. Every booking here is private.
Anyone who mainly wants a boat day around the An Thoi islands. We do not run or resell boats.
Groups of more than seven. One guide and one car work for small parties; larger groups need a different set-up.
Visitors who want a guide in a language other than English at short notice. Other languages may be possible, but ask for availability well ahead and do not assume a yes.

Questions travellers ask most

Is a private guide worth it on an island this size?

If you only want a beach, no. If you want the prison, a pagoda, a market and a stretch of coast in one day without wasting time on closed doors and midday heat, a guide who plans the order saves more hours than the fee costs most parties.

Can the guide meet us without a car?

Yes. Guide-only bookings work well in Duong Dong on foot, or with a taxi or Grab you pay as you go. The guide can book the rides for you.

Which languages do your guides speak?

We plan in English. For other languages, ask for availability when you send the form; we will tell you plainly whether we can cover your date before you pay anything.

Do you sell boat trips or group tours?

No. Our bookings are private guided days on land. If you also want an island boat trip, book it with a boat operator directly.
